REVIEW HELP AND INFORMATION

This is part two of our review guide and on this page we'll look at sorting and filtering the review listings. You can access the other pages using the links on the left, or at the bottom of each page.

FILTERING AND SORTING THE SUMMARIES

By default, our review summary pages (cakes, candles, rockets etc.) list the reviews newest first. We do this so that regular readers can easily see which are the latest reviews in each section. However, you don't have to view the reviews in this way, we have some very useful filtering and sorting options to reorder the listings.

At the bottom of each page you will find a menu that looks like this:

There are two drop down menus (shown top right) with a "GO!" button underneath. The top menu changes the order in which the reviews are listed. You have the following options:

List in price order: Lists the reviews in order of price, with either the cheapest first and working up in price, or dearest first and working down in price. This can be useful to find fireworks in a particular price range.

List in duration order: Lists the reviews in order of their duration, either starting with the longest lasting and working down, or the shortest and working up. This option may not be available in some sections such as Rockets, which have no listed duration.

List in rating order: Lists the reviews in rating order with the highest scoring items first. Effectively provides a league table of reviews.

List in brand order: Lists the reviews grouped by brand, alphabetically and items in each brand also listed alphabetically.

List in name order: Lists the reviews in name order, alphabetically. This is useful if you are looking for a specific item but don't know the brand name. However, don't forget the search option!

Default listing: Reverts the list back to newest first.

In addition to changing the order of the reviews, you can also filter the results (only show reviews that match certain criteria). The bottom option allows you to do this and gives the following options:

Show all fireworks: The default listing. All reviews are shown (all current reviews when in the main section, all archived reviews when in the Vault).

Show garden fireworks only: Only shows reviews where the firework is classed as category 2 (garden firework). This is a handy option if you need to look for smaller fireworks only.

Show display fireworks only: Only shows reviews where the firework is classed as category 3 (display firework).

Best Buy! only: Only shows reviews which are rated as Best Buy (and have 5+ votes).

Best Buy! and Recommended only: Only shows reviews which are rated as either Best Buy or Recommended (and have 5+ votes).

With member comments only: Lists only those reviews which have one or more member (or firer) comments.

No bangs or no noise only: Lists only those reviews which are marked as being "No bangs" fireworks or "No noise" fireworks. Useful if you need to plan a quiet display!

FILTERING AND SORTING THE INDEX

The review index can also be reordered and filtered. By default, only current reviews are listed (main section) or archived reviews (in the vault) and in alphabetical order, by brand.

If you want to view the complete review database, that is the current and the archived reviews together, use the link at the bottom of the index to take you to the Full Index listing. Archived reviews are noted by the symbol.

At the bottom of each index page you will find a menu that looks like this:

There are three drop down menus (top right) with a "GO!" button underneath. The top menu changes the order in which the reviews are listed. You have the following options:

List in rating order: Lists the reviews in rating order with the highest scoring items first. Effectively provides a league table of reviews.

Where no duration is listed (eg. for rockets) this is treated as a zero duration so will come first when you list shortest first, and last when you list longest first.

List in name order: Lists the reviews in name order, alphabetically. This is useful if you are looking for a specific item but don't know the brand name. However, don't forget the search option!

Default listing: Reverts the list back to brand order.

Latest reviews first: Lists the reviews in order they were added to the site, newest first. Useful to see what the latest new reviews are.

By type: Lists the reviews grouped by type, eg. all the cakes together, all the rockets and so on, sorted alphabetically.

In addition to changing the order of the reviews, you can also filter the results (only show reviews that match certain criteria). The bottom option allows you to do this and gives the following options:

Show all items: The default listing.

Best Buy! only: Only shows reviews which are rated as Best Buy (and with 5+ votes).

Best Buy! and Recommended only: Only shows reviews which are rated as either Best Buy or Recommended (and with 5+ votes).

No bangs or no noise only: Lists only those reviews which are marked as being "No bangs" fireworks or "No noise" fireworks. Useful if you need to plan a quiet display!

Finally, you can specify how many records to return on each page: 25, 50, 100 or all matches.
